Stephen Vahey

Stephen Vahey has been managing service projects, collecting and donating food, cooking and delivering meals to clients through the Rotary Club of Glenside.

“They’re all very thankful because we’re providing more than just sustenance — they are high-quality, good tasting meals, that are delicious and nutritious.”

“It’s a really great organization, there are plenty of
projects to do – whether it’s delivering to people,
fundraising, or getting food.” – Stephen

When Stephen was a young boy, he went to elementary school with the sons of the Caring for Friends founder, Rita Schiavone. Stephen had twelve siblings, so people would often call their house asking if any of the kids
could help with chores. Rita was one of those people. Stephen recalls helping unload tractor-trailers of food, and while helping out, he’d see people lining up for blocks, which is why he wanted to continue to be
involved with CFF as an adult.

Since then, he’s managed service projects, collected and donated food, cooked meals, and delivered meals to clients through the Rotary Club of Glenside.

“On average, I deliver to seven homes, mostly to older folks with medical problems who are not mobile. So getting these meals really helps,” says Stephen.

While he usually doesn’t stay for a visit, he helps unpack
food if they need assistance.

“They’re all very thankful because we’re providing more than just sustenance — they are high-quality, good-tasting meals, that are delicious and nutritious.”

To those considering getting involved, Stephen, who is an Allstate Agency Owner, says it doesn’t take much time and is a worthy service.

“Many of the clients have disabilities and can’t get out and/or they’re retired so they’re on fixed incomes. And we know that due to inflation, every dollar counts.”
