Warehouse leader

The Caring for Friends™ warehouse leader is responsible for planning and ensuring smooth and efficient execution of all warehouse operations, including food pickups, gleaning, stocking and food safety, delivery, and commercial kitchen operations, supervision and training of employees and volunteers, and overall building maintenance. This is a full-time position located at our warehouse and office at 12271 Townsend Road, Philadelphia PA.

Primary responsibilities

  • Manage the daily gleaning process, utilizing both staff and volunteers
  • Manage all reporting to outside agencies of food received
  • Assign and optimize both pickups and deliveries
  • Interface with volunteers and agencies to maximize the efficiency of cupboard pickups
  • Maintain a positive relationship with all warehouse visitors
  • Improve the operational efficiency of the warehouse operations by implementing procedures and maintaining accountability
  • Track volunteer data through volunteer management systems
  • Provide a safe, fun, and educational atmosphere with Caring for Friends employees and volunteers
  • Work closely with all departments to understand organizational needs and the ways volunteers can support overall organizational capacity
  • Oversee facilities management and maintenance, including office cleaning

Required qualifications and competencies

  • Excellent ability to manage and hold accountable both small and large groups of individuals

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in-person, online, and by phone
  • Take-charge attitude
  • Ability to maintain focus on tasks and produce accurate work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to see what needs to be done and take appropriate action
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Natural positive attitude, sense of humor, and agile
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs
  • Ability to drive a truck, van, or other utility vehicle
  • Functional experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google Suite
  • High School diploma or higher desirable
